Pheasants and snakes painted by Katsushika Hokusai are embroidered prominently on the chest and back.
Since pheasants sometimes eat snakes and snakes sometimes eat pheasant pups, the two have long been spoken of as sworn enemies.
The work depicts a tense moment of pause before the deadly battle between the snake and the pheasant.
The material is 100% rayon satin on both the front and back surfaces.
The ribs on the collar, cuffs, and hem are made of a wool/acrylic blend.
The color is charcoal for the body and brown (gold) for the sleeves.
